A splashing time was had by all on Thursday 2 July at the inaugural Plas Menai Activity Evening in aid of the RNLI. (Taken from Plas Menai)
The torrential downpour forecast for Thursday failed to materialise and over a hundred people put on a wetsuit and buoyancy aid to spend a couple of hours having fun, getting wet and trying a variety of watersports on the Menai Strait.
Activities included; Catamarans, keelboat sailing, sit on tops, open boats, dinghy sailing and the opportunity to try a celtic long boat.
At 7pm the activities were temporarily suspended as the Beaumaris Blue Peter inshore lifeboat wowed the crowds with a demonstration of driving and recovery skills in front of the centre.
The evening raised nearly £700 for the RNLI with Plas Coch holiday homes generously donating £250 to the charity.
After the activities had concluded, Chair of the Sports Council Wales, Philip Carling unveiled a plaque marking Plas Menai’s 25th Anniversary to staff and invited guests. Mr Carling thanked the staff for their hard work and heralded the activity evening a great success.
To mark the centre’s 25th anniversary, Plas Menai commissioned local Anglesey artist Andrew Southall to produce a series of vivid pictures depicting the centre and its activities which are now on display in the centre dining room.
Plas Menai is the National Watersports Centre for Wales and has been running watersports and adventure training for over 25 years.
