BARRY WANDERERS ATTRACTING NEW CRICKETERS

21 Mai 2009

As part of a drive to attract new junior players, five members of Barry Wanderers Cricket Club have completed Dragon Sport training organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The club welcome players of all abilities and the members went on the course to further improve their coaching skills in readiness for the new season.

Led by the Sports Council for Wales and funded by the National Lottery, the Dragon Sport initiative aims to get primary school pupils active from a young age by encouraging greater numbers of seven to 11-year-olds to take part in extra-curricular sport. Cricket is one of eight key sports that the scheme focuses on, along with hockey, football, athletics, netball, rugby, golf and tennis.

The Vale Council’s Dragon Sport Assistant Pete Hardwick said: "We are always keen to hear from sports clubs who want to get involved with Dragon Sport by providing quality sporting opportunities for local children, just like Barry Wanderers. The club members were enthusiastic to learn as many new skills as they could so that they can continue to attract new junior players by offering top quality standards of coaching."

Barry Wanderers Cricket Club train every Friday evening from 6:30pm – 8pm at the Hayes Point Complex in Sully. To find out more about the club, please visit www.barrywandererscc.co.uk or email r.tucker57@btinternet.com.
