WELSH CUP FINAL AT PARC Y SCARLETS
7 Ebr 2009
The Football Association of Wales is delighted to announce that the 2008/09 Welsh Cup Final will be played at Llanelli’s new £23m Parc Y Scarlets Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May 2009.
This is a high quality venue, which recently staged the UEFA Under 21 Championship qualifying match between Wales and Luxembourg, when the organisation on the night was of the highest standards and won plaudits from all those attending, including the almost 3,000 spectators.
It was decided to fix the final venue, prior to the Semi-Finals being played on the forthcoming weekend, to enable clubs to make immediate arrangements, should they be successful and progress to the Final.
FAW Head of Competitions John Deakin said, "Following incidents at last Season’s Final at Newtown, the Football Association of Wales in conscious of the necessity to play this match at a venue, which is conducive with the safety and security of Players, Match Officials and Spectators and Parc Y Scarlets is an ideal venue to comply with these requirements."
The last time that the Final was played in the Town was as recent as May 2007, when Carmarthen Town defeated Afan Lido 3-2 at Llanelli AFC’s Stebonheath Park.
