HOLVEY COURTS NEW FUTURE IN SPORT
12 Ion 2009
After 12 years of playing a leading role in Welsh Netball, Chief Executive Sue Holvey is stepping off court to take on a new game plan.
As sport moved into the professional era, Holvey was one of the first ever Chief Executives in post in a Welsh governing body of sport. Indeed, she has also been a leading light for women working within sport at a senior level.
She has been at the forefront of netball not only in Wales but representing Welsh Netball right across the world. She has previously served as treasurer to Federation of European Netball Associations (FENA) and sat on the Members Council of the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA).
She has also achieved success in sourcing sponsorship and strengthening links with the business community as well as local authorities. In addition, she has also made a significant contribution to the UK’s premier co-operative Netball Superleague which enjoys weekly live television coverage.
Passionate about the future success of Welsh sport, Holvey - who is a former senior building society manager - is set to continue her role within the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales where she is a director and company secretary. She is also looking to use her wide-ranging expertise in a consultancy role.
Sports Council for Wales Chair Philip Carling explains: "Sue has made a considerable contribution to Welsh Netball and I am delighted that she intends to continue working within Welsh sport. She brings significant experience and professionalism to her day-to-day work.
"Her business background meant that she was highly instrumental in the modernisation planning for all National Governing Bodies in Wales. It’s not often that we get the chance to recognise the backroom staff of sport but, certainly, Sue has been highly influential."
"Welsh Netball Association Chair Stephanie Hazlehurst explains, "Sue has led Welsh Netball over a period of significant change, guiding the association to become a company with a fully functioning board, developing staff structures to meet the ever changing needs of our stakeholders and establishing strong links with other netballing nations. Her contribution to Welsh Netball has been immeasurable and consequently her knowledge and expertise will be greatly missed."
