HOLLYBUSH COMMUNITY CENTRE TO BECOME HUB OF ACTIVITY
18 Rhag 2007
Hollybush Community Centre in Caerphilly is set to become a hotbed of physical activity thanks to a lottery cash investment from the Sports Council for Wales.
A grant of £725 from the Community Chest fund has been awarded to help expand the activities on offer at the centre and to help increase physical activity levels in the community.

The centre already plays host to a popular weekly line dancing class which currently has 48 members.
The new programme is set to incorporate keep fit classes aimed at people of all ages within the community as well as yoga and Taekwando sessions.
The funding will go towards equipment and tutor fees.
The Community Chest scheme has recently been infiltrating additional areas of work such as the voluntary sector (e.g. Voluntary Youth Clubs, Women’s Institute) and the workplace, as well as continuing to support projects in the health and education arenas. Organisations keen to develop sport & physical activity in Wales can now receive up to £1000 for a qualifying project over a 12 month period.
Chair of the Sports Council for Wales, Philip Carling said:
"Community Chest has been and continues to be a huge success and is very popular throughout Caerphilly. The increase in funding and the greater scope of the scheme will increase its effectiveness.
"Panels based in each of the 22 local authorities in Wales hold the purse strings and have delegated authority to award grants to worthwhile projects. We want to hear of bright ideas and projects that will get more people in Caerphilly more active more often."
